The latter one especially (which is more apposite to my situation) is entirely right. People love using the “battle” metaphor about illness, but the gospel of self-reliance is lurking underneath.

Ruth, I thought you'd appreciate that second one. I loved the occupation analogy 'cause it does feel like I'm appeasing CF rather than fighting it! The first one is really good too, the promotion for that film has been bugging me for a while but I couldn't articulate why. Dunno if you saw the quote I posted a few days ago which has me thinking a lot right now: “The true hero's journey is the voyage from strength to weakness.” Takes a strong person to handle being weak, I think. Praying for you.
